Afforesting with the Community to Protect People's Lives

Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture Tree-planting conducted on September 16 along the coast of Suka Beach

Aiming to restore the costal disaster prevention forests washed away, Aeon conducted tree planting at Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.

AEON Environmental Foundation conducted the "Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture Tree-planting," a program which aims to restore the costal disaster prevention forests and beautiful coastal landscape washed away by the Great East Japan Earthquake in accordance with the Agreement on Forest Development that the Foundation concluded with Fukushima Prefecture and the City of Iwaki. Together with nearly 700 volunteers, 7,000 saplings of tree species that grow naturally in this coastal area and are tidal wind resistant, including Japanese black pine and wild cherry trees were planted. Meanwhile, the Foundation and Aeon 1% Club will also be co-hosting The 69th National Tree-planting Festival Fukushima 2018* which will be held in Minamisoma City in June 2018.On the occasion of the opening ceremony, a ceremony entitled "Tree-planting Relay to Make Bonds with Forests" was held to promote this upcoming Festival.

*A national land afforestation event co-hosted by the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization and the Prefecture of the event venue which is held annually since 1950.
