Nagano has many waterways and expansive forests. This project is a first for Nagano. Nagano prefecture acts as an intermediary for our foundation and cities, towns and villages who will become "foster parents" for forests. An "adoption contract" is signed and for 5 years from 2004 to 2008, the "foster parent" works with our foundation to take care of and look after the "adopted" forest. The project areas are 11 hectares in the area of Ueda City and 8.8 hectares in the area of Matsumoto City. On Sunday October 24, 2004, 358 volunteers helped plant 3,200 Chinquapin, Konara, Wild Cherry and other trees in the area of Sannou yama in Ueda City, and on Monday March 21, 2005, 300 volunteers helped plant 800 Chinquapin, Tabu, Japanese Oak and other trees in the area of Daionji yama in Matsumoto City.
