The City of Urayasu in Chiba Prefecture suffered severe damage during the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, due to land liquefaction occurring mainly in areas built upon landfills. By taking the large amount of surplus mud and gravel that had gushed out, and putting it to use in tree planting along the coastline, we are not only helping to create a "green levee" but also promoting development of a green belt that will enhance the lives of local residents.
