Great Wall Tree Planting

Great Wall Tree Planting (1998-2010)

The Number of Tree Planting 4
Trees were planted 116,000
Number of volunteers 7,499

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China, we will hold another planting at the Great Wall. The AEON Environmental Foundation planted 390,000 trees in the Great Wall area from 1998 to 2000 and another 80,000 from 2003 to 2005 with the help of Chinese and Japanese volunteers. Recently concerns about environmental deterioration have begun to increase with China's rapid growth, and environmental protection has even begun to be included in the central governments politics. Because it is said there are no country boundaries for environmental problems, we believe that it is important to solve China's environmental problems while tackling those of Japan, so we aim 1 million trees to create a forest in the area of Pataling. Total 2,093 volunteers (1,021 from Japan, 1,072 from China) planted 20,000 trees on July 1, 2007 and total 190,000 trees will be planted within 2007, which is the first year of this program.
