Just outside of Yangon is PyuGyi Reservoir, which serves as a water source for the city. However in recent years, the forested area near the lake has deteriorated due to logging by area residents, and the forest's ability to regulate the water flow of rivers and provide watershed protection against floods has been compromised. The tree planting activities aim to restore the forest and its watershed protection capabilities. A 3-year program is currently underway.
