Dr. Matsuura has been engaged in research into the population management, breeding ecology, and hygiene control of sika deer (Cervus nippon).  She has had a career as a hunter since 1997.  In the autumn of 2012, she established “The Women In Nature -shoot & eat- (TWIN),” a women’s hunting network in Hokkaido, and has been active in hunting and eating sika deer.  She holds several positions including Researcher of the Hokkaido Research Center, Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute; Project Professor of Rakuno Gakuen University; and board member of the Yezo Deer Association.  She holds a PhD degree in veterinary science.
