Mr. Naoya Furuta earned his Master’s Degree at the Department of Agriculture, University of Tokyo.  He has been engaged in the promotion of global political issues, mainly focused on the Convention on Biological Diversity at the IUCN Japan Project Office, since the office was newly established in 2009 in the Keidanren Committee on Nature Conservation.  After the Great East Japan Earthquake, in Japan he has especially promoted ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation.  He also is engaged in the preparation of the IUCN World Parks Congress to be held in Sydney, Australia in November 2014 and the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) to be held in Sendai, Japan in March 2015.
