Prof. Kazuhiko Koike was born in 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Fisheries, Tokyo University of Fisheries. His major research interest is the ecology of marine microalgae.

In the process of his microalgae research, he became interested in zooxanthellae, and has conducted research on this topic as well. He is a member of the Japanese Coral Reef Society, the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science, the Japanese Society of Phycology and the Plankton Society of Japan.

He is very fond of playing in the sea with his son and conducting field samplings with his students.
