Agrawal, Rajat (Rajat Agrawal, India)

Student, Agra Public School

Rajat,16, belongs to Agra Public School located in the northern part of India. Trying to solve environmental problems like pollution, deforestation, plastic pollution and decreasing ground water level which have been serious in his community, he has joined OISCA’s Children’s Forest Program actively. In his school, some common activities which the students perform are campaigns such as “save water,” “say no to plastics” and “save trees,” in order to create awareness in the students of environmental and certain social problems. The students have kept trying to involve the other children from their community in the environmental activities. To build awareness of the recycling of plastic and paper waste, they hold some interesting programs like painting competitions, the Green Olympiad (a quiz contest on environment) and group tree plantings.
During the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development held in Brazil in 2012, Rajat, as an OISCA Children’s Forest Program representative, made a presentation on the importance of participation in society by children.
