Greener Japan for Greener Tomorrow

Aeon conducted tree planting projects in three different areas in Japan.

On November 1st, Aeon Environmental Foundation conducted a tree planting in Chita City, Shin-maiko area in Aichi Prefecture.
The four-year tree planting project first started in 2011 commemorating the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) held in the Prefecture. This final year, the Foundation planted 9,400 tree saplings together with 752 volunteers. In total, as many as 23,000 saplings were planted over the four years, in a hope that “Shin-maiko Woods” will be a relaxing greenery park for both human and animals. On November 15th, the Foundation also conducted a secondary tree planting in the coastal area of Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture, which had been damaged by the liquefaction at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Utilizing the sediment and muddy produced from the liquefaction as the soil, the participants including 722 volunteers planted 6,700 saplings. On November 23, moreover, another secondary tree planting was held in Aya Town, the designated UNESCO Ecopark in Miyazaki Prefecture, which boasts one of the largest laurel forests in Japan. The Foundation and 600 volunteers planted 5,000 saplings in the areas deforested due to lumbering for building Junior high schools in the town.
Aeon will continue to plant trees in and outside Japan in order to preserve and pass down our green planet to the future.
