Community Efforts for the Greener Future

The Final round of the three-year tree planting was held in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture and Aya Town, Miyazaki Prefecture.

On November 14th, Aeon Environmental Foundation conducted the final round of the three-year tree planting in the coastal area of Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture. Given that the City was suffering from the immense amount of sediments caused by the liquefaction at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Foundation launched the tree planting project in 2013, utilizing the sediment as the soil. This year, the Foundation planted 7,900 saplings together with 900 volunteers, completing the plantation of 18,000 trees over the last three years. On November 23rd, the Foundation implemented the final round of “Aya Town and AEON Partnership Forest” tree planting in Aya Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, an UNESCO Ecopark designated site for its vast laurel forests of the largest scale in Japan. In order to reforest the town woods, part of which was logged out for the purpose of reconstructing the town’s junior high school, the Foundation started tree planting under three-year project in 2013. This year, the Foundation planted 5,000 tree saplings with 700 volunteers. The total of 15,000 saplings are growing into a lush forest. Aeon will continue its reforestation efforts in order to preserve and pass down the green planet to the next generation.
