AEON Environmental Foundation was established in 1990 by Takuya Okada (currently Honorary Chairman and Advisor of AEON Co., Ltd.) as Japan's first independent corporate foundation focusing on the global environment.

One of our main projects is tree planting, and we have planted a total of over 12.55 million trees around the world, mainly in Asia, together with volunteers. Through tree planting, areas devastated by logging, natural disasters, and other issues have been restored into forests full of life inhabited by a variety of organisms.

Taking our 30th anniversary as an opportunity, we embarked on a new initiative of creating AEON Satoyama, following on from creating AEON Forest. Satoyama, a familiar natural environment that people have protected while making use of it as a shared asset, has been devastated by economic growth and social change.

We want to build a new sustainable relationship where people and nature coexist. In addition to the traditional satoyama, we aim to build a new satoyama for the future, where preserving and using the satoyama ties in with the sustainability of the global environment, people's lives, and local communities.
