With the aim of promoting the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, we have established two awards: The MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity (International Prize) and The Japan Award for Biodiversity (Domestic Prize), that recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding environmental conservation activities biennially.

The MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity (International Prize)

This prize was established by AEON Environmental Foundation during the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, the Prize has been awarded to biodiversity champions in several fields, including policymaking, science and civil society, reflecting the need for a whole-of-society endeavor—a seminal principle that underpinned the design of the Biodiversity Plan and its 23 targets (to be achieved by 2023). Up to now, 19 individuals from 17 countries have received the prize.

The Japan Award for Biodiversity (Domestic Prize)

This award was founded in 2009 ahead of the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) held in Japan in 2010.

About the Japan Biosphere Reserves Network Activities

Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC)

In July 2019, we signed a partnership agreement with RESTEC, which has advanced remote sensing technology to observe the Earth's surface from remote locations such as satellites and the know-how to utilize the information for forest management, etc. We are working together on the following partnership activities.

Chiba Entrepreneurship Education Consortium “Seedlings of Chiba”

The City of Chiba has been running the Chiba Child Entrepreneurship School to create opportunities for children, who will be the next generation of business leaders, to develop their entrepreneurial spirit. In December 2021, a consortium was established to further expand this effort with the participation of 13 organizations from industry, academia, and government, including AEON Environmental Foundation.
