In 1758, Okadaya, one of the origins of AEON, was founded in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture.
In 1969, with the aim of "modernizing retailing," Okadaya, Futagi in Hyogo Prefecture, and Shiro in Osaka Prefecture merged to form "Jusco Co., Ltd." Since then, the company has grown by developing suburban shopping centers and financial services, anticipating the arrival of a motorized society, and by repeatedly partnering with various retailers throughout Japan. In the mid-1980s, the company began expanding into Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Thailand, laying the foundation for global expansion. In 1989, in order to achieve further growth and development, the company changed its name from "Jusco Group" to "AEON Group," and in 2001, the company name was changed from "Jusco Co., Ltd." to "AEON CO., LTD." Then, in 2008, AEON CO., LTD. transitioned from an operating holding company to a pure holding company. It has now grown into one of the largest retail companies in Asia, with consolidated operating revenue approaching 10 trillion yen. AEON is a corporate group that continues to innovate, and practices "customer first."
